Water and Food Insecurity
Without water there is no food and therefore no life. Water plays a very important part in the production of food and because of this where there is water insecurity there is food insecurity. Developing countries can sometimes not afford to import food as a result of water scarcity.
Predictions show that rainfall variability alone could damage existing water infrastructure and push more than 12 million people into absolute poverty. Natural and human made factors are both the cause of water and food insecurity. Natural The natural effects include droughts, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and earthquakes. Human The human impacts include the governments arrangements about about agriculture, the funds used to provide in the distribution of agriculture and food and the rise of bio-fuel production. (2014, facing the future Food and Water Security tour) “Water stress: situation that occurs when water demand exceeds the amount available or when poor quality restricts it’s use.” It is estimated that by 2050 more than 3 billion people will be faced with water scarcity and over 2 billion will face water stress.
